Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse: The street that changed from elegant to menacing
Fables & Lies: A World War II Novel tells the story of how brave German museum curators strove to safeguard their national treasures from air raids, including Priam’s Treasure from Troy. When researching, I discovered the ancient trove was housed in the Pre and Early History Museum in the ‘Martin Gropius Bau’ building on Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse in Berlin. It had the distinction of being located next to Gestapo Headquarters which intrigued me. What would it have been like for my characters to have worked next to such sinister neighbours?
